Leadership - Leaving a Legacy of Ongoing Success

Leaders have a great responsibility and should display integrity, wisdom, compassion and purpose for those that they are leading. Through out the years, it was common for leaders to strive for goals or visions and not be able to see or experience the fruits of their labor. Countless leaders have fought for worthy causes, petitioned for justice and rights, created and improved the way of life for millions of people, way passed their life expectancies.

Legacy is a powerful word that is so closely associated with leadership. The dictionary describes legacy as, "something handed down from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past; or something acquired without compensation." Legacy is synonymous with birthright, inheritance, heritage and tradition. Leaders have the ability to create and pass down a legacy. Time and time again, history has recognized phenomenal leaders who have left legacies that far surpass the dreams or visions of the leaders themselves. Perfect examples include, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., The Wright Brothers, Susan B. Anthony, etc. In the case of The Wright Brothers, flying a small plane off the coast of North Carolina would later lead to launching a shuttle into outer space.

As Leaders, we have the ability to create legacies that can not only change the world or change our world, but inspire others beyond our dreams and ambitions. Listed below are keys of how leaders can leave an incredible legacy.

#1 Be consistent in your beliefs and ideologies.

As a Leader, you must have conviction and personify your objectives, goals and visions. Being a great leader requires you to be stable, committed and consistent to those who are following you. It is a form of loyalty and having good character encourages and empowers people to the success you want them to obtain.

#2 Remember that your goals will benefit a mass audience.

Leaders should always lead with big picture in mind. Your contributions, dedication and sacrifice go far beyond those that are in contact with you. Your influence can be branded and spread out to many people, groups or associations. And as Leaders, believe that your impact can go far beyond a project, agenda or specific moment in time.

#3 Do not be afraid to pass on your leadership skills.

The best leader is the one who creates leaders among others. Leaders have an incredible platform to develop, train and equip others for leadership success. Skills can be taught and strengthened under the right leadership. A team, organization or group benefits the most when leaders mentor and encourage them for success in all areas. This type of leadership enhances and builds up the individuals and creates a cycle of ongoing teaching and training.
